Game Changer stars Ram Charan who essays the role of an IAS officer. The movie was released on January 10th, 2025.
The Story Idea And Techniques:
Film director S Shankar is well known for ‘pushing the envelope’ in his movies with eye popping songs, relentless action and state of the art visuals. The story of the movie is very engaging and complex. Game changer, unlike its predecessors, is more of an extension of the masala genre than a paradigm shift.
The film’s plot revolves around the character of Ram Nandan, who is an honest IAS officer. He tries to foil the plans of Bobbili, played by SJ Suryah, who wishes to be the Chief Minister. This character, similar to Shankar’s other films, also contains a mix of flashbacks and intricate double roles. Critics however, state that even after all this, the film still suffers from the “old wine in the new bottle syndrome”.
Performances and Characters
When discussing the performances in this film, Ram Charan’s, undoubtedly stands out as one of the best thanks to his effortless dancing and charismatic persona which in turn makes it easier to watch Game Changer. It’s often noted that Charan acts well in the role of an IAS officer, but his character isn’t particularly written well. Ram is an angry young man reformed into a bureaucrat by the end of the film, but the transitions feel too convenient and stale.
Kiara Advani on the other hand portrays the character of Deepika, Ram’s love interest, but fails to impress, and while she portrays the character well and maintains the same energy as Charan, her character is poorly developed and has very little screen time, serving mostly to act as a romantic interest. She however has a few commendable moments in the movie, but in the end, it felt as if there was more to come, but she didn’t get the limelight.
Technical Aspects
Shankar’s film is effortlessly portrayed through direction and picturisation that is beautifully executed. Game Changer is pretty colorful and the picture has dramatic scenes and action to it. Although, quite a few people had mixed feelings regarding Thaman’s composition, while some preferred the fainter tracks, some did go for upbeat ones enhancing the film’s appeal.
Critics took note that the movie did fail to maintain its coherence through its pacing and overall runtime, the first half of the movie did seem to drench out and only picked up momentum during intermission, however tragically, now the pacing and gaping scenes in the later half saw no change, rendering it utterly sour and slow. Overall, the movie was panned for the sheer absence of structural composition and plausible pacing.
Themes and Messages
Allegations of malpractice and corruption within the electoral and political system were taken on by Game Changer, however, the execution and the manner in which the issue was presented seemed rather nonchalant. Working alongside its serious issues, the plot should not include slapstick humor, for example, in one of the scenes, ministers are shown levitating after being dismissed from their positions.
Box office collection
As per reports, Shankar’s Telugu movie has done a net business of 47.13 crores at the Indian box office. The film raked in Rs. 38 Crores in the Telugu language, Rs 2 Crores in Tamil, and around Rs 7 Crores in the Hindi version of the movie. “In Kannada the film did business of Re 0.1 Crore while in Malayalam it was Re 0.03 Crore” the reports said.
55.82 per cent occupancy was recorded for Telugu version of morning shows and 39.33 per cent for the afternoon shows, while the evening shows scored 50.53 per cent.
Closing Remarks
The film doesn’t quite offer a palette of good stories or some fine narration. The film appealed to several audience but critics say it was an average built movie with elements of entertainment, but the story is quite basic.
